At long last ......

At long last it's finished. My first large (96 x 78 inches) quilt.

I'm really pleased with the pieced binding. It took a while to finish off - but I really like it.
I've still got a bit of tidying up and I need to add a label - but the hard slog is finished.

So I feel a bit lost now without a huge quilt to sit and stitch when I fancy.
You can see from below I've already got the fabric for my next project from Strawberry Fayre. And yet again it was great service - really fast. I've washed the fabric and now it needs a good press. I also need to make sure I think about how the cut the fabric so I don't end up with lots of bits. The larger pieces I'll piece to make the back.

Well done Sarah - it looks great! Don't think I will ever be able to make a quilt that size - I haven't got the patience.

Well done - Great job!

Finishing a quilt is a weird feeling, sort of a rush from finishing, but also a kind of displacement as if an old friend has moved on... does that make sense?

I'm impressed that you took the time to hand quilt it. It's beautiful. I look forward to seeing your next piece of art

What a beautiful quilt! Nice work on the hand quilting, too. I don't think I'll have the patience to hand stitch a huge quilt. The largest so far was a cot quilt and that took months just on the hand quilting.

Hooray for the next quilt, too! I know what you mean about feeling at a loss with nothing crafty to occupy your spare time.

I like the pieced binding a lot. I frequently use it myself, especially on scrappy quilts with borders in a single fabric.

I'm always at a loss when a quilt is finished. Your quilt is lovely as is your hand quilting.

Dennis...

...well unfortunately Dennis died last month. Although we were very upset at the time we realise he had a very happy long life (18 years) and he spent his last day in the garden sunning himself . Everyone who came to the house met him - whether they wanted to or not; he was very friendly . So here are a last few photos of him looking like the fat happy orange cat that he was...

Finished!!!

As you can see I did have some 'help' with my 'Sunburst' quilt. Fluff decided one evening that it was hers and no-one else was going to get near it. As you can see it's done - and I feel a bit sad because I thought it would take longer and I've got nothing to hand quilt. But unlike the last HUGE one this one measure approximately 61 x 50 inches. It was machine pieced and hand quilted in the ditch with YLI variegated thread - called Sunset... I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. Thanks to all of you for the good wishes you sent for both my birthday and anniversary. DH is now very keen to read any comments on the blog as he seems to think they're all going to be about him. LOL . Thanks
