Another sunny Spring day

Before I get onto my views of another sunny April English day I'll share something I've been trying to master. It's a combination of techniques learnt at Brenda Boardman's class at the Bramble Patch.
I made a calico sandwich as a practise piece. I then painted a pattern on photocopy paper with transfer paints and then, when dry, iron this onto the man made organza. As you can see I used 2 coloured pieces and a white, more opaque fabric. I cut the fabric out to shape, pinned it to the sandwich and then (tried) to free machine the pattern painted - using the lines painted as a guide it was so much easier than it being completely free - I must say I'm rather pleased with the result. You may notice if you click on the photo that I embellished the white one with a few beads just to see what it would look like (and to justify having bought them in the first place).

Now to the sunny day photos. The first one is of my cup of tea I treated myself to at Whitemoors. The gardens are really nice and there's nothing that my husband and I love more in the summer than to sit in the sunshine and have a cup of tea - and sometimes a piece of lovely cake. Next along are Dennis and Fluff enjoying the sunshine. And finally my purchases from Woodlands Garden Centre. I have tried to plant them but hadn't realised quite how hard the ground was due to lack of rain. So now I'll now have to water the garden for a few evenings to try to soften it up a bit.
Nothing much planned for the weekend.
Thanks for the comments about the blue and orange - I'm going to take the samples to quilting on Moday night and I'll let you know what they think.

What an interesting process! I haven't heard of this before and now you have stirred up my curiousity, along with your lovely cup of tea. What dear cats you have...well except, for your one little devil;) It seems you might just have a redecorator in the making...watch out for that one!

What a neat process. I love it when my issue of Quilting Arts comes in and I get to play with a new technique.

At long last ......

At long last it's finished. My first large (96 x 78 inches) quilt. I'm really pleased with the pieced binding. It took a while to finish off - but I really like it. I've still got a bit of tidying up and I need to add a label - but the hard slog is finished. So I feel a bit lost now without a huge quilt to sit and stitch when I fancy. You can see from below I've already got the fabric for my next project from Strawberry Fayre. And yet again it was great service - really fast. I've washed the fabric and now it needs a good press. I also need to make sure I think about how the cut the fabric so I don't end up with lots of bits. The larger pieces I'll piece to make the back.

Dennis...

...well unfortunately Dennis died last month. Although we were very upset at the time we realise he had a very happy long life (18 years) and he spent his last day in the garden sunning himself . Everyone who came to the house met him - whether they wanted to or not; he was very friendly . So here are a last few photos of him looking like the fat happy orange cat that he was...

Finished!!!

As you can see I did have some 'help' with my 'Sunburst' quilt. Fluff decided one evening that it was hers and no-one else was going to get near it. As you can see it's done - and I feel a bit sad because I thought it would take longer and I've got nothing to hand quilt. But unlike the last HUGE one this one measure approximately 61 x 50 inches. It was machine pieced and hand quilted in the ditch with YLI variegated thread - called Sunset... I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. Thanks to all of you for the good wishes you sent for both my birthday and anniversary. DH is now very keen to read any comments on the blog as he seems to think they're all going to be about him. LOL . Thanks
