Magazines

I thought I'd share my views on a few magazines I like and what I like about them. The first Qulitmania is a French publication but is luckily for me in English language. It has great articles about international quilters and also good projects. The projects are graded and seem to use different fabrics to the ones I see in the UK.
I bought this from The Bramble Patch.

Quilting Arts is an American magazine I bought from The Bramble Patch. It's different to other quilting magazines in that it's focused on design element and getting you to think and see things differently. This one also has an international feel about it with articles by and about artists from all over the world. It also explains techniques that I've certainly not seen before.

Selvedge is just beautiful and really is a piece of art in itself - it's really special. The articles are easy to read but do make you think about other aspects of textiles. The ads are almost as exciting as the articles. I bought this one from Borders. I just like to sit and look at this one.
I would recommend getting all of the above magazines (I'm not on commission- honestly). I know I should be doing lots of other things but they really are a delight to look at, and we all deserve a treat - don't we.
I'd also like to say how much I've enjoyed seeing the red dots on my Cluster map grow and pop up in new places - it's really exciting and reassuring that there are people out there.....

I love Selvedge, too. It just opens up the possibilities for other projects.

I've seen only one copy of Quiltmania and quite enjoyed it. Thanks for reminding me that I should explore a subscription to their magazine.

Hello all, Apologies to you for the gap between posts.  I've been a little preoccupied with getting our bathroom sorted. It's amazing how you can have work done in one room of the house and the rest of the house turns into absolute chaos. And why has everything started to break, microwave, washing machine, kettle...  Anyway - as I keep being reminded it has to get worse before it gets better! Our little kittens are growing fast - they are quite leggy now and still very fast. I'll try to get a photo of them. It will have to be when they're asleep. On the sewing front I'm still working on my NYB swap. I'm making progress but the deadline is a little nearer than I'd like. Tomorrow I hope to be able to make some more progress with the NYB without my little helpers. An exciting development has also been happening. I've been teaching at Coles in Nottingham. They have a really well laid out spacious first floor room for classes.  It has a l...

Cut and Come Again - sort of

Hello all. Are you managing to avoid the downpours? Crikey when it rains - it really rains. So here is my attempt at Edwina MacKinnon's 'Cut and Come Again' technique that she taught to our group - but I was unable to attend the class.  I was a bit annoyed this week and this is a great technique when you're annoyed.  If you look at the link to Edwina's blog you'll see hers is much better (as you would expect).  But I think if I have another look at her blog photos perhaps I can adapt it.  I'll be putting these blocks together to make a cushion cover for the show in Market Bosworth in June. I promise to show you the results when I have it finished. Have a good weekend - and keep dry.
You may have wondered where I've been - well we've had a week away in Lyme Regis at a very cute cottage - 'Wren Cottage'. It was on the little side (2 up and 2 down) - but what else do you need really. It was very near to the sea front and the centre of Lyme Regis. I fell in love with this shop Susie Cole . It was beautiful inside - organised by colour theme. It was a great shabby chic shop. I loved it - so many beautiful things. And Ginger Beer was full of great things for living outside; bug houses, weather stations, plant signs, bags and lots and lots of other lovely things. There were also some great galleries - Blue Lias was one I really loved. A great variety of items and all a good range of prices so anyone could buy something. And you can't go to Lyme Regis without going fossil hunting.... DH did have to be rather patient as I'm a but of a wuss on slippy surfaces - but we did get across the beach (even with one very wet foot). So here are som...
