Festival of Quilts 2017

Hello. Well, I survived 4 days at Festival of Quilts.
I had a great time, met lots of lovely people and am really inspired to crack on.
I was particularly excited this year as I'd been selected to represent Region 10 of the Quilters Guild in the 'In the Spotlight' exhibition. The theme was 'No place like home'. I decided to use the postcodes of all the places I'd lived.
Although I was really pleased with my quilt, I was a little nervous about it being exhibited and how it would look next to the others.
I must say I was very impressed with how it was displayed.

Also exhibiting in the same gallery representing Region 14 was my friend Sarah Humphreys. She chose to use house numbers to illustrate the theme of 'No place like home'. Another really great example of a modern quilt and as ever amazing machine quilting.
As well as participating in the 'In the Spotlight' exhibition Sarah Humphreys also managed to make another amazing quilt that she entered into the Modern category and won third prize.
Rachel Care entered her work into the Art Quilt category. The attention to detail was breathtaking in the piece.
Hilary Jackson entered a beautiful quilt into the Modern category. I love the continuation of the design in the negative space.
My photographs really don't do any of the quilts justice as they were taken on my phone. They do show their impact, but not the detail.
I feel very fortunate that these artists are my friends and that they inspire me to push myself further with my work. Thank you xx

Thank you Sarah! I love being described as an artist - especially when another artist says it!

At long last ......

At long last it's finished. My first large (96 x 78 inches) quilt. I'm really pleased with the pieced binding. It took a while to finish off - but I really like it. I've still got a bit of tidying up and I need to add a label - but the hard slog is finished. So I feel a bit lost now without a huge quilt to sit and stitch when I fancy. You can see from below I've already got the fabric for my next project from Strawberry Fayre. And yet again it was great service - really fast. I've washed the fabric and now it needs a good press. I also need to make sure I think about how the cut the fabric so I don't end up with lots of bits. The larger pieces I'll piece to make the back.

Dennis...

...well unfortunately Dennis died last month. Although we were very upset at the time we realise he had a very happy long life (18 years) and he spent his last day in the garden sunning himself . Everyone who came to the house met him - whether they wanted to or not; he was very friendly . So here are a last few photos of him looking like the fat happy orange cat that he was...

Finished!!!

As you can see I did have some 'help' with my 'Sunburst' quilt. Fluff decided one evening that it was hers and no-one else was going to get near it. As you can see it's done - and I feel a bit sad because I thought it would take longer and I've got nothing to hand quilt. But unlike the last HUGE one this one measure approximately 61 x 50 inches. It was machine pieced and hand quilted in the ditch with YLI variegated thread - called Sunset... I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. Thanks to all of you for the good wishes you sent for both my birthday and anniversary. DH is now very keen to read any comments on the blog as he seems to think they're all going to be about him. LOL . Thanks
